FAFSA PIN
The first step to completing your FAFSA is requesting your Personal Identification Number (PIN). Please remember that your PIN is confidential and should never be shared with anyone.
To request your PIN from the U.S. Department of Education:
- Go to the Federal Student Aid PIN Registration site and complete the application
- You will receive a confirmation number upon completion
- Print and keep this confirmation number for your records until your official PIN arrives
You should receive your PIN immediately by email or in 7-10 days by mail, depending on which delivery method you request.
The PIN will allow you to:

- Make corrections online to an existing FAFSA application
- Electronically sign your Master Promissory Note (based on lender availability)
- Check the status of your FAFSA application and view the processed data
- Reapply online to renew your FAFSA each year you qualify
In addition, you can:
- Request or print a duplicate Student Aid Report (SAR)
- Access your prior student loan information on the National Student Loan Database
- Access your Direct Loan information, if you have previous student loans
