ADM 535 Educational Leadership: Issues For Women
Course Description
This course is designed to provide students with an overview of educational leadership and an understanding of the issues facing women in educational leadership positions. It examines the various styles of leadership and explores how leadership occurs in an educational environment. The course provides women with the foundation necessary to become educational leaders and explores the unique perspective of women as high achieving leaders.
Topics and Objectives
Women in Educational Administration
· Examine historical gender issues as related to the educational administration field.
· Examine the role of women in leadership and managerial positions.
· Identify strategies for assisting high achieving female leaders in meeting the demands they face as educational administrators.
· Examine the obstacles that women face in reaching leadership positions in educational settings.
Administrative Theory
· Examine the role of administrative theory and its application for women in educational leadership positions.
· Explore the use of educational theory and its application for women in leadership positions.
· Examine the role of systems theory in an educational organization.
Organizational Structure
· Examine the basic concepts of organizational structure and alternative models as they relate to the structure of schools.
Organizational Culture and Climate
· Define organizational culture and climate.
· Evaluate models of female leadership styles and their impact on organizational culture and climate.
Educational Leadership
· Examine different leadership styles traditionally found in organizations.
· Compare and contrast the changing roles of leadership and their effect on women in educational administrative positions.
